Lower Funding for Education Initiatives Coming
To appreciate the reality of current and future school funding problems, you need to read the recent eSchoolNews article titled “Schools Face Tough Economic Road Ahead” ‘by Managing Editor Laura Devaney.
Basically, there are no quick fixes here. States continue to lose tax revenue and funding, housing values remain depressed and unemployment is rampart. Together these factors create a scenario that will have a huge negative impact on education in the coming years.
The article looks ahead and warns that many cuts in education spending are likely to take effect next summer, at the start of the 2010-11 school year.
Some are calling this an opportune time to implement change in the way we fund and operate schools. But all seem to agree that education will feel the financial impact for a long time.
Any good news on the horizon to cheer us up? Let us know.
