White House Announces “Educate to Innovate”

Want to bring America’s science and math skills in line with other world leading countries?  Let’s start at the top with the White House and Mr. Obama himself!

A recent New York Times article “White House Begins Campaign to Promote Science and Math Education” by Kenneth Chang reports that the White House has started a campaign aimed at promoting science, math, technology and engineering.

The program targets volunteers, companies and non-profit groups and looks for funding and time commitments.  Some very high profile individuals and Fortune companies have been recruited by the White house to help champion the cause.

Why not start them young?  Sesame Street has committed programming to nature and science.  Software companies are developing and introducing video games that promote science and math curriculums.

It’s great to see a renewed commitment toward science and math education.  However, some critics are saying teacher and curriculum core issues are being largely ignored and must be addressed before this initiative can be successful.

Kudos to Mr. Obama.
