Swine Flu (H1N1) Recommendations

School is in session and unfortunately it’s once again that time to plan for the inevitable; Flu Season.  And in this case, it’s Swine Flu (H1N1) season.

The U.S. Government has posted its Fall Flu Season recommendations on its Flu.gov website.  This year, based upon severity, their updated guidelines recommend:

-  minimizing school closing disruptions (last resort)
-  vaccinating K-12 students
-  keeping staff & students at home for at least 24hrs after a fever breaks
-  maintaining a separate safe room in-school for the sick until they head home
-  daily screening measures; should the flu become pandemic
-  moving desks further apart

Remember, hand sanitizers and/or frequent washing is the best defense.  School Nurses will play a key role in tracking and educating students and will be proactive in battling the spread of the flu bug.

Be prepared to prevent & deal with the flu this season.  For more H1N1 (Swine) Flu information, visit www.flu.gov
