Temporary Assignment Dilemma

Disturbing on many fronts, an AP news article by Karen Matthews chronicles the struggle of teachers assigned to, as the article refers to them as, “rubber rooms”.  It appears that a large group of teachers are caught in a state of limbo as a result of being squeezed between politics and union contracts.

It’s hard to imagine in this day, age and economic times that hard earned taxpayer money is being used to pay teachers that sit around all day and play scrabble or paint pictures.  It’s unfair to taxpayers and certainly not fair to the trained teachers sitting around for years waiting for their case to be heard.  It’s time to move on.

To avoid further bad press and embarrassment, the Union and Department of Education need to address this issue quickly and fairly.  Is there a fair solution?  We’re all ears.
