Peace Games – Festival of Peace

On May 8th, we were lucky to attend the Coach Inc. sponsored 2009 Festival of Peace at the Javitz Center in NYC.  Over 1,500 student peacemakers came to participate in Peace Games.  In attendance were children from kindergarten through eight grade from five New York City public schools.  Almost double the attendance of the previous year.

From drummers, dancers and storytellers to team games, presentations and performances, participants had a morning filled with fun, while focused on the skills Peace Games instills in young peacemakers—communication, cooperation and conflict resolution.

If you are unfamiliar with the Peace Games organization, we recommend a visit to their website to learn about their wonderful programs and their core fundamentals.  The Peace games mission is to empower students to create their own safe classrooms and communities by forming partnerships with elementary schools, families and young adult volunteers.  Peace Games was founded on the belief that young people have the power and responsibility to change the world. It is an innovative violence prevention program that teaches elementary school students to be peacemakers across the country.

Congratulations to Peace Games and Coach for supporting and nurturing our future peace makers.
