National Teacher of the Year
Way to go Mr. Mullen!
The Council of Chief State School Officers (CCSSO) reported that President Barack Obama met with Anthony Mullen and his family before presenting him with an award in the Oval Office and honoring him and other award finalists in a Rose Garden ceremony.
The National Teacher of the Year Program focuses public attention on teaching excellence. It is the oldest and most prestigious teacher honors program. A committee of representatives from 15 national education organizations chooses the National teacher of the Year from among the state teachers of the year. Mr. Mullen was Connecticut’s Teacher of the Year nominee. He has spent 30+ years in public service, with the last eight as a teacher. Previous to that he spent over twenty years in the New York Police Department.
What’s next for Mr. Mullen? Well, now he will spend one year of his educational career as spokesman and advocate for the teaching profession. Speaker requests should be directed to the CCSSO. Mr. Mullen’s uncanny ability to connect with students will make him a hot ticket.
Let’s give thanks and credit to the other four finalists and all other nominated state teachers of the year. You can find the list of this years state teachers of the year as well as all past National Teacher of the Year winners at www.ccsso.org.
Join us in congratulating this accomplished and dedicated group of educators.
