Class Trips – Not This Year!

Perhaps, not even next year.  That’s the buzz as cash strapped schools and districts struggle to close widening budget gaps.  Schools continue to lose precious tax revenues from lower property taxes, and everyone and everything from teachers, sports programs and class trips are in danger.

A recent USA Today article by Greg Latshaw highlights the realities of cash-strapped schools losing their funding for field trips.  Basically when all available funds are spent on everyday classroom school necessities, something has to give.  In this case it’s the field trip and/or sports programs.

Hopefully, teachers, parents and students will take on this challenge and use tools such as fundraisers to close funding gaps and raise money for important outside the classroom learning opportunities.

During these tough economic times, Virtual Field Trips, Treasure Trunks and Traveling Road Shows will play an important role in student learning.  Many museums and class trip programs now offer to bring their shows to schools.  Look for innovative ideas on our website in the near future.
