New Teacher's Aide - Video Games?

The application of video games in the learning environment is beginning to take hold.  As a result of many favorable research reports, a number of states have established pilot programs to evaluate their effectiveness in the classroom.

Recently, eSchoolNews reported that students in experimental groups scored significantly higher on algebra and pre-algebra math exams after playing educational video games in the classroom and at home.  Students are thrilled and desire these e-learning tools.  They enjoy playing while they are studying.

It appears relevant video games can really add value in a teaching environment.  What better way to get students into learning than to use the same tools that are part of their everyday life.

On the downside, setting education standards and orientating teachers to use the results from this technology to evaluate student progress may be a challenge.  And game makers must develop games that are flexible and adaptable to specific student and teacher needs.

Hopefully the education community will embrace video game integration to engage and excite students.

Welcome to the real world.  Any thoughts?
