No Child Left Behind - Buses Included!
You can’t follow local and national news these days without hearing about another child left behind un-noticed on a bus at the end of the day. Especially disturbing is the fact that many of these youngsters are special needs children.
Even with the lawsuits and criminal charges of the past, it appears drivers are still neglecting to practice required and necessary safety checks. Most of these incidents would not have happened if proper protocol and good judgment was applied.
Children are exactly that, children, and they often will fall asleep on the bus after a busy day at school. Drivers are accountable to parents and schools for the safety of the children entrusted to them. They have to take a few short minutes to walk through the bus and follow other necessary safety procedures. Failure to follow required rules and regulations is not an option, its outright neglect and possibly criminal.
Perhaps a heightened awareness of this issue, driver training and stricter laws will reduce or eliminate the number of children left behind each year. What will it take?
